Archival Storage: Cold Data at 77% Off (Temporary Price Program)

Cold data shouldn't cost the same as hot data. The Archival Storage (Temporary Price Program) for Simple Object Storage (SOS) lets you store cold data at 77% below Standard pricing, with temporary free retrieval, on the same S3-compatible infrastructure you already use. It is built for genuine archival workloads: cold archives, long-term backups, and retention data you rarely access.

How it works

  • Request activation through the activation form, one request per bucket, reviewed case by case

  • Once approved, your usage is billed at the Standard rate, then the difference down to the Archival rate is credited as a discount in the following billing period

  • Same buckets, same API, same European zone, nothing changes for your applications

⚠️ Before you enroll: this is a 10 TB billing commitment. Every bucket on the program is billed for at least 10 TB per month, even if it holds less. This is cost-effective for large, genuinely cold datasets; on a small bucket, that flat charge can exceed the Standard price, so estimate your costs in the storage calculator first.

Key conditions

  • 10 TB minimum per bucket, billed regardless of actual usage

  • No object lock or retention on enrolled buckets

  • Temporary Price Program runs until our Warm and Cold Storage Classes launch (early 2027), then a 30-day window to migrate each bucket before Standard pricing resumes

Timeline Overview

Storage Classes roadmap: the Archival Temporary Price Program is available now and runs until the Warm and Cold Storage Classes launch in early 2027, followed by a 30-day migration window before Standard pricing resumes for buckets not migrated.

If you keep large, rarely-accessed datasets on Standard storage, Archival pricing can substantially lower their cost. See the full details on the Storage Classes page, request activation for your buckets, or estimate your savings with the storage calculator.
