Compute: Munich infrastructure upgrade completed

The infrastructure upgrade of our Munich zone (DE-MUC-1) has been successfully completed.

All Compute instances and customer workloads have been migrated from the previous Equinix MU3 data center to the new Equinix MU4 facility. The transition was carried out without disruption, and all services continue to operate normally on the new infrastructure.

The new environment provides a more modern and energy-efficient foundation, improving the long-term resilience and scalability of the Munich zone.

Block Storage support in DE-MUC-1 will follow shortly. Once available, it will allow you to attach persistent volumes to your Compute instances and build more flexible, production-ready architectures directly in the Munich zone.

As always, throughout the migration process, no customer data ever left the Exoscale network.

SKS: Veeam Ready Kubernetes

Exoscale Scalable Kubernetes Service (SKS) is now listed as Veeam Ready Kubernetes for Veeam Kasten for Kubernetes.

This validation confirms that SKS has been qualified to support Veeam Kasten Kubernetes-native backup and restore capabilities, including coverage for the platform (distribution) and CSI integration coverage, verified by Veeam.

What this enables

Run Veeam Kasten for Kubernetes on SKS in order to back up and restore your applications
Use Veeam Kasten workflows for disaster recovery and migration of Kubernetes applications on and off SKS
Rely on a Veeam-qualified Kubernetes platform for Kasten operations (per Veeam Ready Kubernetes)

Getting started

To protect workloads running on SKS with Veeam Kasten:

Create an SKS cluster (matching your target Kubernetes version)
Install Veeam Kasten for Kubernetes on the cluster using the Kubernetes native installation method
Configure storage integration and backup locations as per Veeam Kasten documentation

SOS: Veeam Ready Repository – Capacity Target

Exoscale Simple Object Storage (SOS) is now certified as a “Veeam Ready Repository – Capacity Target”.

This certification confirms that SOS can be used as a Veeam object storage repository and as a Capacity Tier in Veeam Scale-Out Backup Repositories, meeting Veeam’s functional and performance requirements, including immutability (Object Lock) support.

In Veeam Backup & Replication, Exoscale is configured via the “S3-compatible object storage” option using standard S3 credentials and endpoints.

What this enables

Store Veeam backups directly on Exoscale SOS
Use SOS as a Capacity Tier for long-term retention
Protect backups with immutability (Object Lock)
Follow standard Veeam S3-compatible workflows

Getting started

To start backing up to SOS in Veeam:

Add a new Object Storage Repository
Select “S3-compatible object storage”
Configure it using your Exoscale S3 endpoint and credentials

Exoscale-specific documentation will be updated separately.

Restore to on-premises environments is supported, while restore to Exoscale will be introduced in a future update.

Compute: Frankfurt Infrastructure Upgrade Completed

We’ve successfully completed the migration of our Frankfurt zone (DE-FRA-1) from FR7 to the new Equinix FR8 data center. All workloads were transitioned seamlessly with no disruption, and the zone is now fully operational in its new location.

This upgrade strengthens the resilience of the Frankfurt region and increases capacity to support continued customer growth and evolving workload requirements.

Key highlights

Zero disruptions — all instances continue to run as before.
No impact on pricing — improved foundation at no additional cost.
Enhanced resilience and scalability for future workload needs.
All customer data remained within the secure Exoscale network throughout the migration.
GPU instances remain temporarily in Equinix FR7 and will be migrated at a later stage (customers will be notified separately).

We are excited to announce an update regarding the subscription pricing of our support plans, effective July 1, 2025. This information applies to both our valued existing customers and those considering our support plans.

Reduced Support Subscription Prices

We've reduced the cost of our support plans, which is a direct result of our enhanced operational efficiency. Our commitment to providing exceptional support remains at an even more accessible price.

Optimized Support Workflows: We've implemented more effective request handling through streamlined processes.
Expanded Knowledge Base & Self-Service Tools: Our enhanced resources empower you to find solutions quickly and independently, contributing to faster issue resolution.

Specific Impact on Our Plans:

Starter Support Plan: The monthly rate will be reduced from 100 CHF/EUR/USD to 50 CHF/EUR/USD. This represents a 50% reduction in the monthly subscription fee.
Pro Support Plan: The monthly rate remains 500 CHF/EUR/USD (no change).

Deprecation API v1 as of May 1st, 2024

Our CloudStack based API v1 will be deprecated as of May 1st, 2024.

At foundation of Exoscale, our API was initially built upon the CloudStack project. However, as we expanded and developed new features, we gradually evolved away from CloudStack and introduced the Exoscale API v2 in November 2020. Version 2 of our API is fully compliant with the OpenAPI standard and aligned with our current vision and innovations we're bringing to our platform.

Since the introduction of API v2 we sustained both the legacy API and the new API v2 to avoid disruption of existing tooling and services. From May 1st, 2024 we will deprecate the CloudStack based API and only support the new API v2.

Changes in endpoints

From May 1st, 2024 endpoints at https://api.exoscale.com/compute will no longer work. All calls will have to use https://api-[zone].exoscale.com/v2/ endpoints.

Our SOC-2 Type 1 report, which adds to our growing portfolio of certifications, including ISO 27001, 27017, 27018, and TISAX, is a testament to our commitment to maintaining the trust and confidence our customers and partners have come to expect. Examined by Johanson Group LLP, this achievement marks another milestone in our ongoing dedication to security and reliability.

Our Journey Towards SOC-2 Compliance

At Exoscale, we're determined to consistently ensure security and integrity of our clients' data. Obtaining the SOC-2 Type 1 report is an important step in that direction. A Type 1 report focuses on evaluating whether our controls are designed effectively and accurately implemented at a given point in time.

Next Steps: Aiming for SOC-2 Type 2

While the Type 1 report is a significant milestone, our sights are now set on obtaining the SOC-2 Type 2 report in Q2 2024, following a 1-year observation period. Unlike Type 1, which covers the design and implementation of controls, the Type 2 report assesses the effectiveness of those controls over an extended period of time. This will provide further validation of Exoscale's commitment to ensuring security and reliability. We will remain proactive and diligent in upholding our security standards, as we work towards obtaining the SOC-2 Type 2 report.

Starting today, AT-VIE-2 is available to all customers. It is the first time, we are offering a second zone within one city.

AT-VIE-2 is using latest generation Intel Xeon CPUs (Sapphire Rapids) for compute capabilities. The new zone thus not only brings new acceleration out of the box, but can be perfectly used for primary/secondary architectures or highly available applications together with AT-VIE-1.

The second zone in Vienna is Exoscale's seventh zone in total, letting customers an even wider choice to host their workloads.

SKS brings simplicity and reliability to any Kubernetes workload with:

SKS launches today to all customers with Limited Availability in 3 zones :

Geneva
Frankfurt
Vienna

and sets a General Availability in all zones for mid March 2021 as well as activation of full SLAs on the service.

API v2 introduction

As of today we are introducing API version 2 for Exoscale products. Compliant with the OpenAPI standard it comes along with a new documentation section. We will progressively migrate calls to the new format and new products and features are released under the version 2 specification as of now.

As part of the improvements to this new format, the new accompanying documentation is now complete with test commands as well as payload and response examples.

API version 1 remains available alongside version 2, with no immediate sunset plans until all calls are migrated end of 2021 earliest. As part of the long term support of our services, version 1 deprecation will be announced with a minimum 180 days notice period. As always, full API interaction is provided through our API client libraries such as https://github.com/exoscale/egoscale making this upcoming long term change transparent for most use cases.

In order to make our Object Storage API as close as possible with AWS S3 one, we will soon modify the create-bucket command behavior.

In 7 days we will deploy a new version of create-bucket that will return the BucketAlreadyOwnedByYou error when you call it on a bucket that already belongs to your organization.

If you have any custom API client relying on the absence of the error please update it as soon as possible.
