Managed ClickHouse® leaves early access and is now generally available in Exoscale European zones, with the full DBaaS SLA and self-service plans from Startup to Premium.

What changes

Create and manage services from the Exoscale Portal, alongside the rest of our managed databases, as well as from the API
Script it from the command line with the exo dbaas commands of the Exoscale CLI from v1.100.0, including ClickHouse users
Manage it as code with the Exoscale Terraform provider from v0.72.0, including ClickHouse users through the exoscale_dbaas_clickhouse_user resource
Self-service from Startup to Premium, with no per-organization activation step; the largest configurations remain available on request
Backed by the DBaaS SLA, 99.95% on Startup and 99.99% on Business and Premium

What has not changed

Everything the service already did: sub-second queries on billions of rows, vector search with the HNSW index, tiered storage to Exoscale Object Storage, federated queries against Managed PostgreSQL, and 100% standard, open-source ClickHouse® with no proprietary fork, billed per second.

Managed Thanos enhances Prometheus by keeping metrics available for longer periods, providing a unified query view across environments, and ensuring high availability. It is intended for teams that rely on monitoring to understand system performance, detect issues, and analyze trends over time.

We’ve introduced new CPU-optimized variants to our Managed PostgreSQL service.

These plans are tailored for compute-intensive workloads where raw CPU performance matters. Ideal for:

Real-time analytics or large aggregations
High-concurrency applications with many parallel client connections
Bursting workloads with frequent CPU spikes (e.g., background processing, data transformations)

They pack 50 % more CPU cores for only ~ 20 % extra cost compared to the equivalent standard plan. No need to pay double to jump to the next tier.

Valkey is now available via CLI & Terraform

The DBaaS Valkey service is now fully supported via Exoscale CLI (https://github.com/exoscale/cli) and the Exoscale Terraform provider (https://registry.terraform.io/providers/exoscale/exoscale/latest/docs).

Existing Exoscale for Caching (formerly Redis®) customers must migrate toValkey by April 30, 2025. Manual migration is available via the Portal;any remaining instances will be transitioned automatically after this date.

We’re introducing Valkey, now available as a managed database service on Exoscale via the web portal (CLI & Terraform coming soon).

What is Valkey?

Valkey is an open-source, in-memory key-value database designed as a drop-in replacement for Redis®. It was created in response to Redis Ltd.’s license change, ensuring the continued availability of a truly open-source solution under the BSD license, backed by the Linux Foundation.

We’re excited to announce that Valkey, a fully open-source, drop-in replacement for Redis®, will soon be available on Exoscale!

Why Valkey?

Valkey, maintained by the Linux Foundation, is fully backward-compatible with Redis 7.2.4.

It offers caching, message queues, and persistent key-value storage, with planned optimizations to improve performance and scalability.

What’s Next?

The full release of Valkey on Exoscale is planned for early 2025.
A detailed migration guide will ensure a smooth transition from Redis to Valkey.

Introducing External Integrations for DBaaS

Users can now forward database logs and metrics to external providers, enhancing monitoring, analytics, and operational insights.

As a first step, Datadog is now supported for seamless database monitoring and analytics.

Set up and manage Datadog integration directly in the Exoscale Portal via the new Endpoints tab.
Easily configure endpoints and manage settings, including API keys and Kafka-related options, for effortless integration.

What’s Next?

Additional third-party integrations will be rolled out soon, including:

Rsyslog
Prometheus
Opensearch
Elasticsearch

This marks the beginning of broader external integration support, enabling users to connect their databases to tools that suit their needs.

New CLI Features for DBaaS User Management

We’ve extended DBaaS user management capabilities to the Exoscale CLI, making database administration easier and more flexible.

New Features:

Create DBaaS users.
Delete DBaaS users.
Reset DBaaS user credentials.
List and view DBaaS user details.

Advanced Settings for DBaaS available

Our DBaaS Services now offer advanced settings. Within the configured database, you can now find a new tab "Database Settings" to configure your database service even further. With advanced settings you can for example enable the slow_query_log on MySQL or configure SSO authentication methods for your Grafana instances.

Advanced Settings are available for all database services: Managed PostgreSQL, Managed MySQL, Managed Apache Kafka, Managed OpenSearch, Exoscale for Redis, and Managed Grafana.

All advanced settings are available via Portal and API.

Metrics for DBaaS

Next to the Backups, IP Filter and Logs tabs you can now access Metrics for your databases within the portal. Keep track of the performance and behaviour of your databases by reviewing the most important stats.

Disk IOPS (writes & reads)
Network transmit (KB/s)

It is now easier to check the specific DBaaS backup plan in the CLI. Get an overview of the backup interval, max backups, recovery mode and more with a simple command:

DBaaS Service Logs in the Portal

It is now possible to view service logs of your databases within the portal. Within the details of your database you can now choose between backups, IP filter and Logs tabs.

The logs let you easily inspect previous actions as well as errors to support in case of debugging or other issues. All logs can be downloaded as CSV or JSON file.

After an API and CLI support first for Exoscale DBaaS, the web portal access has landed as well. From the Exoscale Portal you can now create, view and delete your data services in a few clicks.

DBaaS has reached General Availability

We proudly announce that DBaaS has now reached general availability (GA).

For our service this means that starting today September 14th, 2021:

SLAs on DBaaS are fully enforced
Support is fully active
Billing starts
CLI and API interfaces will be live

GA is available for our PostgreSQL, Kafka and Redis™ managed database offerings.

Documentation on DBaaS has been updated and will continue to grow within the next weeks.

Also, we are currently in beta for Terraform support in the Exoscale Terraform Provider. Full support will be available in due time.

Introducing Database as a Service (DBaaS)

Today we introduce our Database as a Service (DBaaS) solution powered by Aiven. DBaaS is the latest extension of our core infrastructure service.

DBaaS is launched in Preview mode until the end of August to all customers within all zones. We start with a limited offering of open source based relational and distributed databases:

All managed database options offer the highest security standards and are fully GDPR compliant. DBaaS is currently available via CLI only.

General Availability (GA) is expected for early September with activation of full SLAs on the service and further database options. Preview mode comes free to use until GA.
